Stewardship
The universal human reaction to the magic of the Pantheon and
Waddington Ranges is amazement; all who come here are blown away by the scale
and scope of these mountains. It is not only their size and utility for sport
that amazes, but also their unspoiled purity: no clearcuts, abundant wildlife,
almost no trace that humans were ever there. Pantheon Helisports has put into
place a Stewardship Policy which is designed to preserve this untouched wilderness,
and promote non-extractive industries such as tourism to help ensure that these
wild places are protected for the generations to follow. Below are a few components
of this policy. Please feel free to contact us with your feedback and questions.
Wildlife Protection Policy
One of the aspects of the Pantheon Helisports area that is so special is the
large number and huge variety of wildlife, even in winter. Making sure that
these animals are not harmed by our presence is a central tenet of the Pantheon
Helisports Wildlife Protection Policy.
During all operations, Pantheon Helisports maintains strict standards to ensure
that wildlife is not negatively impacted by our operation. For example, if our
helicopters are flying above a community of goats, the pilots will always maintain
a distance of more than two kilometers to make sure that the goats are not disturbed
by our presence.
Our daily wildlife impact mitigation program involves guides and pilots recording
any wildlife observations, and reporting these sightings to the provincial government.
We immediately change where and how we operate if our actions are having any
observed impacts on local wildlife populations.
In many cases, the wildlife surveys that we complete during our operations are
the most comprehensive and detailed ever completed in the area. Pantheon Helisports
is developing wildlife maps to share with the government that will be used to
promote conservation and protection measures.
Net Zero CO2 Policy
Activities which add greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide to the environment
contribute to global warming, which in turn propagate droughts, floods and may
effect future snowfall. While it might seem counterintuitive that a helisports
company can operate without contributing CO2 to the air, by using innovative
conservation techniques, Pantheon Helisports reduces overall net greenhouse
gasses.
For example, Pantheon Helisports does not send out paper brochures, opting instead
to send out only the electronic versions. This not only saves living trees (which
process CO2), but also reduces emissions created producing, mailing, shipping,
and delivering brochures. By limiting our communications to those media that
do not have a negative greenhouse effect, we are continuing to reduce our overall
CO2 production.
Secondly, all electricity used at the Whitesaddle Ranch (the Pantheon Helisports
base of operations) is produced from clean hydroelectricity. The ranch has a
Pelton-wheel type generator system which supplies the entire compound with its’
total electricity needs. The fossil fuels saved by not using any outside electricity
are considerable, and further reduce the Pantheon Helisports net greenhouse
gas production.
